HARRISBURG – Rep. Jason Silvis (R-Westmoreland/Armstrong/Indiana) today announced $2.5 million in state funds were awarded to Adelphoi to construct an enhanced supervision facility on the main campus in Unity Township.

Silvis advocated for support through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) to assist with this important project.

“This project is sorely needed as there is currently no enhanced supervision programs for girls in the Commonwealth,” Silvis said. “Adelphoi already offers a similar program for boys so it has proven it knows how to successfully support children who need this type of treatment. In addition, this project will create an additional 70 jobs.”

The 15-bed facility will be for girls in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. It is designed to offer an increased level of care over a community-based residential environment and a less intensive environment than a secure residential facility. In a physical comparison to a full secure unit, enhanced supervision offers delayed locks rather than complete locks on entries and exits.

Funding for the projects was authorized by lawmakers in the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act.

The 55th House District includes Parks Township, and Apollo and Leechburg boroughs in Armstrong County; Saltsburg Borough in Indiana County; and Bell, Derry, Loyalhanna, part of Unity and Washington townships, Avonmore, Derry, East Vandergrift, Hyde Park, New Alexandria, Oklahoma, Vandergrift, West Leechburg and Youngtown boroughs, and the city of Latrobe.
